New ATT Residential Agreement May Allow Sales Calls

Changes to Your AT&T Residential Service Agreement

May Allow Telemarketing Calls

If you are a customer of AT&T Residential Services and you don’t like to receive telemarketing calls, you might want to add this item to your list of things to worry about.

My January statement from AT&T (for my residential service) included a notice that my agreement was about to change. You know the kind of notice I’m talking about; small piece of paper, small print, the kind of notice most of us never read? Well, I did read this one; I don’t like it and I don't think most other AT&T customers will like it either.

It starts off by saying that the changes go into effect 30 days after receipt of "this bill” and that Sections 11,16 and 17 will be amended as follows:Click to Enlarge

Section 11: MISCELLANEOUS has an additional sentence at the end which reads: you agree that we may call you about the Services we provide under this Agreement and the services that other AT&T affiliates provide you under separate agreements, whether such calls are automated, handled by a live attendant, or are provided through other means.

I’ll leave it to you to decide for yourself, but it looks to me like they are setting things up so that they (AT&T) and their affiliates can call you to sell you things even if your number is on the "Do Not Call” list.
If you still have your January statement, you may want to look for your notice or click here to read the entire notice.
